Big Sleep by Google Becomes First AI to Stop Exploit in Real-Time — Redefining Cybersecurity Forever

In a significant step forward for cybersecurity, Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that the company's AI agent, Big Sleep, successfully prevented a cyber exploit before it could be deployed. This is being referred to as a first-of-its-kind achievement in which artificial intelligence proactively prevented a danger, something that has never occurred in the cybersecurity field.

On July 15, Pichai announced the information in a post on X (previously Twitter). This development marks an important moment in AI history, as it is now actively attempting to prevent risks rather than only recognizing them after they have occurred.

Big Sleep is a advanced AI created by Google DeepMind in collaboration with Project Zero, Google's elite security team. It's intended to detect software vulnerabilities, including those that have yet to be discovered or published.Since late 2024, the AI has been slowly making progress, including discovering a severe SQLite vulnerability (CVE-2025-6965) that only hackers were previously aware of.

This time, it went beyond simply identifying a problem. Big Sleep, with the help of Google's Threat Intelligence team, forecasted that the flaw would be exploited soon — and prevented the attack from taking place. That's a significant shift from only fixing known bugs.

Google hasn't specified how long Big Sleep has been active, but its recent success suggests that more AI-driven security solutions may follow — not just within Google, but also throughout its cloud services and open-source platforms worldwide.

As cyberattacks become more common, technologies like Big Sleep may become necessary for securing networks around the world.  AI is no longer merely an assistant; it is becoming a front-line defense.
