Meta’s Project Waterworth: The World’s Longest Undersea Cable to Boost India’s Digital Growth

Meta is ready to launch Project Waterworth, the world's longest and most advanced underwater cable line, in India, one of its main markets. The subsea cable, which is 50,000 kilometers long and longer than the circle of the Earth, will connect five continents and is projected to be operational by the end of the decade. The declaration came as part of the recent US-India Joint Leaders' Statement, which emphasized Meta's commitment to India's rapidly expanding digital landscape.

The undersea cable network is critical for worldwide internet access, enabling telecom carriers to improve services and manage growing data traffic. As demand grows on tech giants like Meta to invest in network infrastructure, this project meets the growing demand for dependable and high-speed internet solutions.

Meta intends to use advanced routing techniques and cable burial tactics to protect infrastructure against potential damage in shallow coastal zones. The cable will also reach depths of up to 7,000 meters in deep ocean, assuring safety and stability. The US-India Joint Statement also underscored India's ambitions to invest in undersea cable maintenance in the Indian Ocean.

As India's digital economy grows, Project Waterworth is intended to improve connectivity, drive economic growth, and promote technological advancements. Meta believes that this program will promote digital inclusion and help India's long-term digital goals.
