Meta has removed its controversial AI image feature from Muse Image after privacy concerns over public Instagram accounts. The move highlights growing focus on AI privacy, user consent, image generation, and digital safety.

Meta Removes AI Image Creation Feature Amid Growing Instagram Privacy Concerns

Meta AI, Muse Image, AI image generation, Instagram privacy, and the Meta AI image tool have all been widely discussed since Meta removed a new feature from its AI image generator in response to user complaint. The feature allowed people to create AI-generated images of anyone with a public Instagram account simply by mentioning their username in a prompt.

The feature quickly gained popularity, but many users expressed major privacy concerns. Because all public Instagram accounts were integrated by default, anyone may create AI photos using someone else's profile without their consent. Users were also not notified when someone created an image with their account. Although private accounts and users under 18 were safeguarded, many people believed the feature might still be misused.

After receiving negative feedback, Meta declared that it had totally removed the feature. The startup stated that its goal was to create a creative AI tool while allowing people control over their material. However, Meta conceded that the feature "missed the mark" and discontinued it. Muse Image will keep working, but it will no longer generate images from public Instagram profiles.

Meta has also disabled the option that allowed public Instagram users to choose whether their content may be reused for AI image development. When someone attempts to make an image by tagging an Instagram account, the AI tool just declines the request.

The subject also drew attention from the entertainment sector. CAA, the talent agency that represents some famous individuals, has encouraged Meta to make AI image sharing choice rather than automatically integrating public accounts. The agency stated users should be able to determine whether their images can be used in AI-generated content.

This isn't the first time an AI image tool has received controversy. Other businesses, such as OpenAI and xAI, have also faced criticism for privacy and usage concerns regarding AI-generated images and videos.

The latest Meta AI update emphasizes the growing relevance of privacy and user permission in AI development. As AI image production gets more advanced, technology companies are expected to implement more robust protections to protect users and avoid the exploitation of personal information.
