Telegram’s New Update Brings Secure Group Calls, Business Features, Gesture Shortcuts, and Better Moderation

Telegram has released a significant new version packed with features aimed at improving user privacy, business tools, and overall app experience. The most noticeable innovation is free end-to-end encrypted video calls with up to 200 participants. This takes Telegram ahead of many prominent video conferencing platforms, including Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, in terms of group sizes.

These encrypted group calls enable users to share audio, video, and even their screen. You do not need to set up a group chat beforehand, calls can be initiated directly and shared using call links or QR codes. To maintain security, participants can test encryption with four randomly chosen emojis displayed on-screen. According to Telegram, these calls combine encryption with a distributed security structure.

Telegram Business users will benefit from yet another significant enhancement. Premium accounts now support automation with third-party bots, which include AI-powered bots. Businesses can use these bots to manage communications, change profiles, execute transactions, and even post stories. Permissions can be adjusted for specific tasks, allowing organizations to govern what bots can access and execute.

Telegram is also making its platform more transparent by implementing a new moderation and appeals process. If an account is marked for a violation, it becomes 'frozen'. Users can now file an appeal within the app, and if successful, all limitations are lifted. This function appears to be targeted at rebuilding user trust following previous legal problems.

Finally,Telegram has upgraded its gesture controls. On Android and iOS, forwarding messages is now as simple as dragging and dropping. iOS users will also benefit from a new shortcut: swiping right on the conversation stream will launch the Story Editor, allowing them to create content faster.

This upgrade builds on Telegram's efforts to be a top choice for both personal and business communication.
