DeepSeek AI Data Exposed: Wiz Discovers Unsecured DeepSeek Data, Sparking Privacy and Security Concerns
Cybersecurity firm Wiz uncovered a major data exposure from Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, revealing sensitive information. Despite the breach, DeepSeek’s AI rapidly surpassed ChatGPT in App Store downloads.

Over a million lines of private information are now publicly available after a major data breach was found by the New York-based cybersecurity company Wiz from the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek. Digital software keys, backend information, and chat logs documenting user interactions with DeepSeek's AI helper were among the exposed material.
Wiz described in a blog post how this security flaw was discovered by its scans of DeepSeek's infrastructure. DeepSeek was swiftly notified by the company, and within an hour, the exposed data was secured. However, because the material was easily discoverable, Wiz's Chief Technology Officer, Ami Luttwak, voiced concern that other parties might have obtained it before it was secured.
Media questions regarding the incident have not yet received a response from DeepSeek.
DeepSeek's AI assistant has grown rapidly in spite of this security hiccup, competing with US firms like OpenAI. Concerns over the viability of AI business models have been raised by its explosive growth, which has excited China and unsettled American tech companies. Major players like Microsoft and Nvidia are being forced to reevaluate their tactics due to the company's ability to match OpenAI's capabilities at a cheaper cost.
As investors responded to the competitive shift in AI dominance, DeepSeek's AI assistant overtook ChatGPT in the Apple App Store download rankings on Monday, which helped trigger a global selloff in IT stocks.
