Google Rolls Out Search Live in AI Mode with Real-Time Conversations and Voice Capabilities in Search
Google launches Search Live in AI Mode in the U.S., enabling real-time voice conversations and follow-up queries in Search.

Google has started testing a new feature called Search Live in AI Mode in the United States, which aims to make voice-based search more interactive and human-like.This experimental feature, announced at Google I/O 2025, is available through Search Labs and is currently limited to the Google app for Android and iOS.
Search Live allows users to have real-time conversations with Google Search, similar to how they would interact with a chatbot like Gemini Live. It is powered by a custom version of Google's Gemini AI model, which is designed to handle back-and-forth queries and understand follow-up questions easily.
To access it, users should tap the waveform icon located just below the search bar. This opens a full-screen interface with mute and transcript options, allowing users to respond by speaking or tapping. For added convenience, the feature displays links to relevant websites, allowing users to explore more details if necessary.
One of the most notable features is that Search Live continues to run even after users exit the Google app, making the experience more seamless. Users can also access previous conversations via the AI Mode history.
While still in early testing and only available in the United States, Google has stated that more advanced features are on the way. For example, in the future, users will be able to point their phone's camera at objects and ask them questions in real time. Furthermore, the voice assistant supports four different voices—Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini—that users can select from the settings menu.
This feature highlights Google's push to create a more natural and conversational search experience by smartly combining AI and voice technology.
