Google Enhances Gemini AI: Perform Quick Tasks Without Unlocking Your Android Device
Google's Gemini AI extensions now work on Android lock screens, enabling quick tasks without unlocking, except for personal data access.

Google has improved the functionality of Gemini extensions, allowing them to work directly from the lock screen on Android smartphones. Previously, Google Assistant handled activities such as turning on a flashlight or setting an alarm. With this update, the AI-powered chatbot can now do these tasks alone, without the need for Assistant.
This update provides a more seamless experience for consumers, allowing them to enjoy Gemini's features without having to unlock their devices. Gemini extensions were first offered last year, allowing the AI to interact with multiple apps and execute a variety of tasks. Previously, these functionalities were only available on the online client, the Android app, and the Gemini AI assistant; they did not operate on the lock screen.
With the latest version, users can now ask Gemini to make reminders, provide fast navigation directions, answer basic questions, or locate nearby stores all from the lock screen. When activated, the revised Gemini interface appears in full-screen mode while performing tasks.
Users who have previously enabled Google Assistant on their lock screen should have this feature enabled by default. Others will need to activate it manually in the Gemini app's settings. Users will still need to unlock their handsets before performing actions that involve personal data or access to other apps. This upgrade is a huge step toward making AI-powered support more comfortable and available to Android users.
