Google Urges Users to Update Chrome Immediately After Discovery of Critical Remote Code Execution Flaw
A critical Chrome vulnerability allowed remote code execution via malicious websites. Google urges users to update Chrome on Windows, Mac, and Linux to stay protected from active exploits.

Google has issued an urgent security advisory to Chrome users after identifying a serious vulnerability in the browser. The issue, labelled CVE-2025-6554, enables attackers to remotely execute malicious code on a user's system just by tricking them into visiting a fake website.
On June 25, Clément Lecigne from Google's Threat Analysis Group discovered a problem in Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine. Google has confirmed that this vulnerability is actively exploited in the wild, which means that hackers are already utilising it to attack people. Once victimised, the attacker might steal your personal information, install malware, or even gain complete control of your system.
To address this, Google released a new Chrome update that fixes the issue. Windows users should upgrade to version 138.0.7204.96/.97, while MacOS and Linux users can update to version 138.0.7204.92/.93.
If you are using Chrome and have not yet updated, it is highly suggested that you check your browser version and install the patch. To perform this, click the three-dot menu (upper right corner) in Chrome, then Help > About Google Chrome, and wait for the browser to update. After installing the update, restart Chrome to check the fix is activated.
Staying updated is one of the simplest methods for safeguarding yourself against such risks. As cyber-attacks become more advanced, keeping your software up to date is not only safe, but also necessary.
