Google Meet Enhances Meetings with AI-Powered Next Steps and Live Caption History
Google Meet introduces AI-powered “next steps” task suggestions for business users and 30-minute scrollable live captions for all.

Google has revealed two new features for Google Meet that will improve its AI capabilities. The first innovation, available exclusively to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise users, improves Gemini's existing note-taking capabilities. Previously, the "take notes for me" option captured and summarized meeting conversations in a Google Doc. Based on interactions, the AI will now provide a checklist of actionable "next steps". It will also recommend due dates and assign tasks to appropriate individuals, making it easier to track follow-ups. Users can update, reassign, or remove tasks as needed.
The second feature, available to all users, improves the live captioning capability. Previously, captions were only displayed in real time; now, participants can now go back up to 30 minutes to examine previous captions. This enhancement makes it easy to catch up on missing portions of a conversation, especially in lengthy meetings.
The changes highlight Google's continued efforts to integrate AI into workplace applications, thereby improving collaboration and efficiency. The next-steps capability will be available to Business and Enterprise users, including those who have the Gemini Enterprise or "AI Meetings & Messaging" add-ons. Meanwhile, the extended live captioning feature will be available to all Google Meet users. These improvements are intended to increase meeting efficiency by ensuring that key takeaways are documented and follow-ups are clearly stated.
