Google Enhances RCS Chats with Message Deletion for Both Sender and Recipient
Google Messages is introducing a "Delete for Everyone" feature for RCS chats, allowing users to remove sent messages from both sender and recipient devices.

Google plans to update its Messages app with a "Delete for Everyone" function for Rich Communication Services (RCS) chats, giving users more control over their talks. This update will allow users to erase sent messages from both their own and the recipient's devices—as long as all parties are using the most recent version of Google Messages.
Currently, removing a message merely removes it from the sender's device, while leaving the recipient's copy intact. With this new tool, Google hopes to match its messaging service with competitors that currently offer similar services.
An APK deconstruction of the most recent beta version (20250131_02_RC00) of Google Messages reveals two delete options:
Delete for me - Deletes only the message from the sender's device.
Delete for Everyone - Removes the message from both devices.
However, for "Delete for Everyone" to work properly, all participants must be using the most recent version of Google Messages. Otherwise, the notice may still be accessible to people using an earlier version.
When a message is erased, users will get notifications:
To sender: "You deleted a message."
To the recipient: "Message was deleted by its author."
If deletion fails, the app will display "Sender attempted to delete a message."
This version builds upon the GSMA Association's RCS Universal Profile 2.7 features, which enable message editing and recall. Google has yet to confirm a release date, but the beta version signals a possible debut soon, making Google Messages more competitive with other prominent chat platforms.
