UIDAI has launched the SITAA (Scheme for Innovation and Technology Association with Aadhaar) to boost India’s digital identity ecosystem through innovation, AI, and data privacy, supporting startups and institutions to build secure Aadhaar-based technologies.

SITAA by UIDAI: Empowering Startups and Tech Firms to Build Future-Ready Aadhaar Technologies

The Scheme for Innovation and Technology Association with Aadhaar (SITAA) is a new initiative launched by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The objective of this strategic initiative is to enhance the digital identity ecosystem of India by promoting innovation, collaboration, and the development of advanced technology within the Aadhaar framework.

UIDAI aims to collaborate with startups, academic institutions, and technology enterprises to create future-ready, secure, and scalable identity solutions under SITAA. The initiative's primary objective is to advance indigenous technologies in critical sectors, including blometric security, artificial intelligence (AI), authentication systems, and data privacy. The primary goal is to position India as a global leader in secure digital identity innovation and to improve the technological capabilities of Aadhaar.

In order to achieve this goal, UIDAI has established strategic partnerships with NASSCOM and the Meity Startup Hub (MSH), These organisations will be important in establishing technical expertise, incubation support, and industry connections for the participating entities. MSH will provide technical mentoring, incubation, and accelerator support, while NASSCOM will facilitate industry collaborations and worldwide promotion to ensure that innovations developed under SITAA acquire international visibility and impact.

The SITAA program will commence with three significant innovation challenges that are designed to enhance the security and authentication of digital identities. The initial challenge, Face Liveness Detection, challenges startups to create tools that can detect deepfakes, masks, or photo-based spoofing in order assure real-time and dependable identity verification. The second challenge, Presentation Attack Detection, challenges academic and research institutions to develop Al- and ML-based systems that can detect print and adversarial attacks in real time. The third challenge is Contactless Fingerprint Authentication, in which innovators are tasked with developing solutions that facilitate fingerprint recognition using standard smartphone cameras, thereby ensuring a secure, seamless, and rapid user experience. The SITAA pilot is accepting applications until November 15, 2025. The program will provide support for the further development, testing, and deployment of selected innovations.

In line with national initiatives such as Digital Public Infrastructure and Atmanirbhar Bharat, UIDAI stated that SITAA reflects India's strong dedication towards constructing a strong and secure digital future. The program's objective is to reinforce technological independence and encourage regional creativity within the identity ecosystem. By enabling collaboration and advanced research, it aims to establish India as a global authority in digital identity solutions. In the end, SITAA will contribute to the improvement of public trust and security in the nation's expanding digital environment.
