Indian Businesses Embrace AI in 2025, Driving Productivity, New Job Roles, and Workforce Transformation Across Industries
Indian businesses are rapidly adopting AI, with most leaders planning large-scale integration in 2025. Microsoft’s report highlights new roles, upskilling priorities, and strong workforce readiness, positioning India as a leader in the AI-powered future of work.

Indian organizations are quickly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) in order to revolutionize the way they do work. According to Microsoft's 2025 Work Trend Index for India, the majority of business leaders say AI is no longer an option but a need for the future.
According to the survey, 93% of Indian leaders intend to deploy AI agents in the next 12 to 18 months to improve worker capabilities. Nearly two-thirds of leaders prioritize productivity increases, and 90% believe 2025 is the year to reconsider basic strategy, the greatest proportion internationally.
Microsoft refers to the most forward-thinking companies as "frontier firms." These businesses have already integrated AI extensively into their operations. Around 59% of leaders use AI agents to automate operations across entire teams, demonstrating that the transition is more than simply experimentation but a true transformation.
Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India & South Asia, stated that India is currently in the "AI-first era." He described AI as a "thought partner" which helps in innovation, quicker decision-making, and better cooperation.
The rise of AI is also resulting in new work opportunities. Approximately 92% of leaders intend to create AI-specific positions, with more than half expecting teams to construct systems that manage complicated tasks.
Skill is another important factor. More than half of leaders say upskilling is a priority for the next 12-18 months, and 63% expect AI training will be part of every team's responsibilities within the next five years. Fortunately, 66% of employees and 80% of leaders in India are already familiar with AI agents, indicating a significant readiness for change.
Globally, AI adoption is also increasing. Microsoft's Copilot apps have reached over 100 million monthly active users, and over 230,000 companies are using Copilot Studio to create custom AI agents.
The report indicates that India has progressed beyond pilot initiatives and is now implementing AI on a large scale.With strong leadership, a smart workforce, and expanding technological capacity, India is ideally positioned to lead the AI-powered future of work.
