Microsoft Tests AI-Powered Copilot Mode in Edge to Simplify Browsing Tasks and Organise Web Activity

Microsoft is currently testing a new feature called Copilot Mode in its Edge browser. This AI-powered tool aims to make web browsing smarter and more efficient.

Copilot Mode enables users to conduct everyday tasks such as summarizing content, comparing things across tabs from several websites. It appears on the new tab page and acts like a chatbot. Users can enter or even speak their commands, makes browsing more convenient and participatory.

One interesting feature of Copilot is its ability to open several tabs, assist with product comparisons, and even browse websites using your voice. Microsoft also plans to allow Copilot to access your browsing history and saved credentials but only with your permission.

Importantly, Copilot Mode is optional. If you don't want to employ it, simply turn it off in Edge settings. Microsoft has provided clear visual indicators to help users understand when Copilot is functioning.

According to Sean Lyndersay, Vice President of Product at Microsoft Edge, the feature will help users organise their web activity into topic-based journeys, making it easier to manage both previous and present browsing work.

Because the capability is currently in the testing phase, Microsoft expects Copilot Mode to improve over time. This launch is part of a broader trend as AI is transforming the way we explore the web. Google is also testing AI features in Chrome, and new browsers, such as Comet by Perplexity AI, are entering the competition with equivalent smart tools.
