Microsoft is pushing its AI-powered productivity tools to the next level by making Copilot Pages available to all users globally. This functionality, which was initially offered for enterprise users in September 2024 as part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot suite, is now available to all signed-in users across both desktop and mobile platforms.

Copilot Pages is an AI-powered collaborative workspace that allows users to write, edit, and format documents alongside Microsoft's chatbot assistant. It functions as a digital canvas on which humans and artificial intelligence can collaborate. Consider it a smarter, more interactive document editor in which the AI actively collaborates, rather than simply assists.

While similar functionalities are also available from OpenAI (Canvas in ChatGPT) and Google (Canvas in Gemini), Copilot Pages provides unique formatting tools as well as a more visually refined interface. However, these improvements come with a minor drawback: longer loading speeds, particularly when switching between pages.

Key Features of Copilot Pages

  • Collaborative Editing: Users can highlight any section of the content — words, sentences, or entire paragraphs — and ask Copilot to reword or simplify it, expand or shorten it, or change the tone (formal, casual, etc.).
  • Formatting Tools:Compared to its competitors,Copilot Pages has more formatting options, such as changing text colour, adding collapsible headlines, inserting alerts, generating checklists, bullet points, and tables, among others.
  • Real-time Collaboration: Similar to Google Docs, users can share a page and work on projects in real time with others.

One noticeable difference is how you begin using Pages. Unlike ChatGPT and Gemini, which allow you to use Canvas without typing anything, Copilot Pages needs you to first type a prompt and receive a response. Only then can you use the collaboration space.

Copilot Pages takes an innovative and feature-rich approach to document editing by combining human creativity and AI efficiency. While it may slow slightly when compared to speedier tools, the robust editing features and seamless collaboration options make it a viable rival in the emerging field of AI-powered productivity tools.

With this global deployment, Microsoft Copilot Pages is now available to millions of consumers, allowing them to work smarter, not harder.
