Union Communication Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has stated that the Indian government is taking serious measures to combat cyber fraud. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he stated that numerous significant steps are already in place to combat increasing cybercrime, including the establishment of a new platform known as the Digital Intelligence portal (DIP).

This platform aims to increase coordination across multiple agencies. It has already brought together over 620 entities, including 570 banks, police departments from 36 states, and investigation agencies. This contributes to a better linked and quick-response system for dealing with fraud.

The Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) tool is one of the major tools employed. This system keeps records of individuals involved in bank frauds. The information is shared with all banks, ensuring that any transactions attempted by these persons are promptly blocked.

To avoid telecom fraud, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is also taking measures. According to data from the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, approximately 3.57 lakh mobile numbers have been disconnected, primarily in Rajasthan, Bihar, and West Bengal.

The DoT has also developed ASTR, an AI-powered tool that detects mobile connections made under fake names. So far, more than 82 lakh fake connections have been disabled for failing re-verification tests.

In addition, a more stringent Know Your Customer (KYC) process has been implemented to issue new SIM cards and handling SIM swaps. This ensures that only confirmed users can access mobile services.

Mr. Scindia also addressed the state-owned telecom businesses BSNL and MTNL, stating that they are recovering. A review meeting was recently held, and fresh business strategies are currently being developed for each region.

All of these efforts demonstrate that the government is taking serious and thoughtful steps to make digital transactions safer for everyone.
