Google to Build AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, Accelerating India’s Digital and Technological Growth
Google is investing $15 billion to build a major AI hub and data center in Visakhapatnam with AdaniConneX, boosting India’s AI progress, digital economy, connectivity, and positioning the nation as a global technology leader.
India is making another significant advancement in the field of technology. Google has announced to establish a massive artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with AdaniConneX, a worldwide data services company. This project will get a major investment of over $15 billion between 2026 and 2030, making it one of Google's largest initiatives in Asia.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Google's initiative, stating that the new AI hub will boost India's digital economy and help the country become a global technological leader. He also stated that the project complements the government's "Viksit Bharat" vision, which seeks to develop a digitally powerful and self-sufficient India. According to him, Google's investment will "democratize technology," which means that modern technology will become more accessible to individuals across the country.
The project includes the development of gigawatt-scale data center infrastructure, implying that India would soon host some of the world's most powerful data centers. These facilities are critical for running advanced AI models, cloud computing, and worldwide digital operations. Along with this, Airtel and Google will construct a cutting-edge cable landing station (CLS) in Visakhapatnam. This station will connect India to Google's new worldwide undersea cables, resulting in increased internet speed and connectivity.
According to reports, Google's Visakhapatnam data center might become Asia's largest data cluster, with a capacity of one gigawatt (GW). Google currently runs data centers in 11 countries, with 29 sites, including the United States, Japan, Singapore, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The inclusion of India in this global network represents a key milestone in the country's technical development. This investment will not only advance AI research and digital infrastructure, but will also generate thousands of new jobs and opportunities in data science, cloud computing, and AI innovation. It establishes India as a vital role in the world's expanding AI ecosystem.
With Google's presence in Visakhapatnam, India's drive to become a worldwide hub for AI and digital innovation has gained significant traction. The project demonstrates how worldwide tech giants are recognizing India's ability to lead the AI revolution and create a smarter, more connected, and future-ready nation.
