WhatsApp is a popular messaging software, but one of its downsides is that video calls automatically turn on the front camera.  This means that users cannot accept a video call without being noticed, which can be inconvenient in certain circumstances.

However, WhatsApp is apparently developing a new tool to address this issue.  When you get a video call, the current Android beta version displays a new "Turn off your video" button.  Tapping this button turns off the camera and allows users to answer calls in voice-only mode. Furthermore, WhatsApp has included a "Accept without video" option, indicating that users can answer video calls without being visible.

While this functionality may not be necessary for everyone, it could assist prevent internet scams, notably extortion threats.  In India, scammers have been utilizing WhatsApp's video call feature to begin calls with vulgar material, take pictures of victims' faces, and blackmail them for money.

Although the exact release date for this feature is unknown, given its importance, Meta is expected to provide it soon.  This upgrade will provide users more control over their privacy and increase security when utilizing WhatsApp video calls.
