Gurgaon police have made immense strides against rising cybercrime since January of this year. Authorities in India have arrested 52 people, including a minor, for their involvement in a variety of online scams The fraud committed by these suspects totals Rs 61.65 crore.

According to officials, the crackdown has helped resolve more than 12,600 cybercrime complaints and 502 official cases across the country, including 28 in Haryana.The arrested fraudsters were running a variety of scams, including fake social media profiles, fraud, investment frauds, impersonation of government officials, and the infamous FedEx courier scam.

During the inquiry, police found 26 mobile phones, five laptops, three SIM cards, an ATM card, a chequebook, and Rs 15.36 lakh in cash.The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) is now examining the seized devices to gather additional evidence and determine the scope of the fraud.

Several major arrests have occurred as part of this operation.For example, Ruma Grover, a woman, was arrested in Delhi in early January.  Several more, including Sachin, Karan Kumar, and Mohammad Kasif, were arrested in April and May.A total of 14 persons, including Anjanaiya Chaudhary and Himanshu Fartyal, were captured for their involvement in large-scale frauds.

In one case, a minor appeared as an Adani Group representative on Telegram and convinced a victim to deposit Rs 1.2 lakh in exchange for promised commissions. Another scam had the accused defrauding a guy of Rs 1.2 lakh using a fake contact number for Lemon Tree Hotel that was listed on Google.

This massive crackdown by Gurgaon police shows the growing threat of cyber fraud and the importance of exercising caution when dealing with unknown online sources.
