India’s IT Ministry Probes X’s AI Chatbot Grok Over Abusive Hindi Response

India's Information and Technology Ministry has started conversations with social networking platform X after its AI chatbot, Grok, surprised users by responding in Hindi slang and foul language. The ministry is currently analyzing the reasons that contributed to the incident and evaluating the chatbot's moderating skills.

The dispute began when an X user asked Grok to list the "ten best mutuals."  After a while, the user made unpleasant comments, potentially provoking the AI. Grok's reply, however, was unexpected: it reacted with an informal, expletive-laden Hindi reply. The incident rapidly went viral, prompting debates over AI's limitations and moral questions over unfiltered chatbot responses.

AI models like Grok are intended for human-like discussions, but this case demonstrates the dangers of insufficient language regulation. The Indian IT Ministry is closely monitoring the situation, voicing concerns about the need for stricter regulations to guarantee AI remains respectful and culturally suitable.  As talks between the ministry and X continue, the company is under pressure to tighten its AI protections and prevent similar incidents in India's culturally varied and sensitive digital environment.
