Paytm Launches Custom UPI IDs to Let Users Hide Mobile Numbers During Payments and Boost Privacy

Paytm, India's leading digital payments and financial services provider, has introduced a new feature that enables customers to create personalized UPI IDs.This new option is intended to protect users privacy by hiding their cell numbers during money transfers and payments.

This feature allows users to generate custom UPI handles such as yourname@ptyes or yourname@ptaxis instead of utilizing their mobile number-based UPI IDs.  This measure aims to improve privacy and establish trust in digital transactions, particularly for those who frequently pay merchants, delivery people, and other vendors.

The personalised UPI ID feature is now only accessible for handles provided by Yes Bank and Axis Bank, but Paytm announced that it would soon expand support to include other banking partners.

Steps to Set Up a Custom UPI ID on Paytm

Creating a custom UPI ID is simple and only requires a few steps:

  • Open the Paytm app.
  • Tap the profile icon.
  • Go to 'UPI Settings'.
  • Select 'Manage UPI ID'.
  • Select your preferred UPI ID and activate it as your primary ID.

Paytm's goal in giving this level of personalization is to make digital payments not just more safe but also more user-friendly. A company spokesperson stated, "Our customers wanted to keep their mobile numbers private, so we created this solution to meet that need."

This step demonstrates Paytm's continuous commitment to consumer privacy and innovation, making digital transactions safer and more flexible for millions across the country.
