MeitY launches AI Kosha and GPU Access Portal for AI Development
MeitY launched 'AI Kosha' and the 'IndiaAI Compute Portal' to provide startups and researchers access to datasets and GPUs, boosting India's AI innovation.

On March 6, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) introduced AI Kosha, a platform for non-personal datasets, and the IndiaAI Compute Portal as part of the ₹10,738-crore India AI Mission. These programs aim to help startups and researchers by giving access to datasets and high-performance computing resources needed to build AI technologies such as large language models (LLMs).
AI Kosha: Driving AI Innovation
AI Kosha is part of the India Datasets Platform, which allows for easy access to non-personal datasets for AI model development. Initially, the site contains data from government ministries, with intentions to expand. This program is critical for reducing AI bias and developing India-specific AI models.
IndiaAI Compute Portal: GPU Access for Startups
The IndiaAI Compute Portal offers startups access to 18,693 GPUs, including Nvidia H100 and H200 GPUs, as well as AI chips from AMD, Intel, and AWS. Initially, 15,000 GPUs will be available to promote AI research and innovation.
A Major Step for India’s AI Growth
MeitY wants to provide seamless API links between GPU providers and the site, providing easy access to resources for AI developers. This is a significant step for India's AI growth, as computing accounts for 45% of the mission's expenditure. This action strengthens India's AI ecosystem by allowing businesses and researchers to create cutting-edge AI solutions.
