India Becomes Second Most Cyber-Attacked Nation with 95 Breaches
India became the second most targeted nation for cyber attacks in 2024, with 95 entities affected. Major sectors hit included finance, government, and telecom, with significant data breaches and ransomware incidents reported.

According to CloudSEK's ThreatLandscape Report, India became the second most targeted nation in the world for cyberattacks in 2024, with 95 companies becoming victims of data theft. Due to its economic importance and sophisticated digital infrastructure, the United States was identified as the most attacked country with 140 occurrences in the analysis, which examined data from the dark web. With 57 strikes, Israel came in third place due to geopolitical concerns.
India was especially vulnerable due to its increasing digitization. With 20 businesses attacked, the banking and financial industry was the most severely impacted. There were 13 victims in the government sector and 12 in the telecom sector. Ten events were reported by the healthcare industry, nine by the pharmaceutical industry, and nine by the educational sector.
850 million records from Hi-Tek Group, client information from Star Health and Allied Insurance, and 2 TB of private data from Telecommunications Consultants India were among the major data breaches that occurred in India in 2024.
With 108 cases documented, ransomware incidents were also common. With over 20 attacks in India, Lockbit was the most active ransomware gang. Killsec and Ransomhub were next with over 15 and 12 instances, respectively.
The results show how urgently strong cybersecurity measures are needed to safeguard India's quickly expanding digital environment.
