Google Unveils “AI Mode”: A Revolutionary Shift from Traditional Search to AI-Powered Summaries
Google introduces "AI Mode", an AI-powered search feature replacing traditional results, available exclusively to Google One AI Premium subscribers.

Alphabet-owned Google has released a new AI-powered search engine feature called AI Mode, which replaces the typical 10 blue links with AI-generated summaries. This experimental feature is now offered exclusively to Google One AI Premium subscribers.
Users can activate AI Mode from the search results page by clicking on the *dedicated tab, which displays detailed AI-generated responses reinforced by hyperlinks. This represents a substantial shift in user interaction with search results. Google has previously deployed AI Overviews, which are short AI-generated summaries that show above traditional search results in over 100 countries, with adverts inserted since May last year.
The introduction of AI Mode is Google's most aggressive step yet to retain its dominance in the search industry, particularly in light of increased competition from Microsoft-backed OpenAI. Last year, OpenAI upgraded their ChatGPT platform with integrated search capabilities, increasing competition in AI-powered search solutions.
Ruth Porat, Google's investment chief, has labeled AI integration into search Google's "biggest bet", highlighting its relevance given that search-based advertising is Alphabet's key income source.
Google One AI Premium subscribers, who benefit from enhanced cloud storage and advanced AI tools, may now access AI Mode by selecting the AI-powered search tab, ushering in a new era of online search technology.
